From earth you came. You shall become earth again.
In my thesis, I investigated whether through my art I can find ways to influence people’s feelings through stories, to create images for thought. I have created flowers in an attempt to touch and raise questions about how we value our nature. Creating with nature as a source of inspiration feels highly topical given the climate changes our planet is being exposed to. Based on my feelings for nature and work as an artist, I see it as part of my work to work with these issues in one way or another.
Plants in art have had the purpose of pleasing, inspiring and showing beauty. But they also had the purpose of reminding of the transience of life, the finitude of life and the decay of everything. Can I touch and raise questions about how we value our nature by showing the impermanence of plants?
With the mythical mood, I create an equality to the plants, highlighting them for the human eye to see its fragility and finitude. The work comments on the drive of human desire to shape and control the nature around them. It questions the idea of man as the center of the universe. Can we begin to see the perspective of others and not just the human?
