The feeling of function
Ciro Brights exam series is an exploration into the feeling of function. From his long time fascination with tools Ciro became enamored with objects that express functionality. Particularly, he is fascinated by the unique experience of interacting with an object and somehow knowing that it serves a purpose, whilst not knowing what that purpose might be. In that moment where function is unclear, a primitive feeling takes hold and he finds himself visually and manually analyzing every element of the object in an attempt to gain some understanding of why it exists and why it was made the way it was. For his project Ciro examined a wide assortment of historical and modern tools in order to boil down what visual and sensory elements are at the heart of that feeling of knowing that something serves a function. His goal was then to find the line that bisects a functional tool from an abstract object and create a series of pieces that dance right along it, to hopefully impart upon the viewer the same primitive, childlike feeling that he himself is so fond of.
