Ida Kaae works between fiction and documentary, mainly through lens-based mediums. Kaae often uses sports as a tool to address social rules and norms in society.
The Teammate series consists of eight self-portraits depicting Kaae wearing protective sportshelmets. The portraits separate the actor from the act of playing sports to focus our attention on how the helmets shape, mask and contort Kaae’s facial expressions and affect the reading of the body, opening the work to narratives addressing identity, camouflaging, gender and belonging.
